Retell Bookstore

LOGO / PRINCETON, NJ

- Logo

When Selah Hampton founded ReTell Bookstore, she reached out to me to help her get started on identity. She needed a logo that would celebrate Black heritage as well as literacy. In return, I created a thoughtful logo that would honor its black audience and the black author and voices it caters to.

We decided to reference the Sankofa symbol, which is associated with the proverb, “Se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi,” which translates to “It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten." It's a symbol Selah saw a lot throughout her childhood, and certainly applied to her mission.
